Another Snapchat Update?!
We didn’t think that it would happen so soon, but there has been yet another Snapchat Update! This update has caused controversy to the wide range of users all over the world, and we are going to tell you exactly why…
The main layout of the app does not appear different, and each of the original features, such as the fun filters, remain the same. However, users are now able to pinpoint exactly where their Snapchat friends are on an integrated map, by simply pinching the home screen. The map can even show you when users are travelling by placing their “Bitmoji” in a little red car.
After yet another Snapchat update, users all around the world have gone mad, heading to Twitter to express their feelings. Whilst it can be a great feature for when users are meeting up with friends, or trying to find a location – it could also become quite threatening for those who are not sure of how to manage their account security.
When activating the new update, users are given the option to “ghost” their account – which means that their Bitmoji won’t be seen on the map by any users of Snapchat. There are many younger users of Snapchat, with majority of secondary school students using the app. The recent update is criticised for its potential security risks of various users, such as the younger generation – younger users of any app are often unaware of how to protect themselves online.
However, many kids are pretty technology savvy, and their parents and friends are able to help them out when it comes to the technical stuff – so, we say anyone can use social media platforms, as long as they use them safely.
But enough of the dark side, let’s take a look at the benefits of the update! This could be a great improvement for businesses who use the app. This is because they will be able to share their location in an easier way, rather than sending clients an address for them to have to find themselves and follow. As well as this, the new integrated map will also act as a new, different revenue channel, allowing marketers to use location data to improve their contextual marketing. Also, the new “Snap Maps” is the apps unique version of Facebooks “Check-In” feature – also benefitting businesses and marketing.
Exciting Extras of Another Snapchat Update!
Not only does the latest update allow you to see where other users are on the map, but it allows you to see what is going on in the area surrounding you, as well as around the world!
As you can see from the images, there are specific areas which are covered in red, yellow and blue. These colours indicate that there are a lot of users in one spot, who are each sharing snapchats to the “Our Story” within the app. This means that people in the same area, or who click on the area, can see what is going on there.
